What is telehealth?

Telehealth is defined by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as, “the use of electronic information and telecommunications technologies to support and promote long-distance clinical health care…”. Basically, health care providers can offer patients services such as consultations, exams, reviewing imaging such as X-rays, formulate a likely diagnosis and even provide distant treatment.

Health care providers can use videoconferencing programs to communicate with patients in real-time! Your history can be reviewed face-to-face, electronically. Many examination procedures do not involve hands-on contact. For example, range of motion can be observed, and postural alignment can be analyzed remotely. You can simply use your smart phone, or a camera hooked up to a computer. So, a diagnosis can often be made using these telehealth methods.

Chiropractors can use telehealth to guide the patient through therapeutic exercises, stretches and other activities to help improve problems including:

  • Low back pain
  • Radiating pain into the hips, buttocks or legs
  • Neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Shoulder pain
  • Numbness and tingling in the hands or feet
  • Middle back pain
  • Poor posture
  • Rounding of the back
  • Scoliosis
  • And more…

We can even send you exercises devices to use at home if necessary… all explained using videoconferencing technology.

Is Telehealth Covered by Insurance?

YES!!! Most insurances are expanding coverage of telehealth services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some insurance carriers are even allowing doctors to waive copays and deductibles for all services provided through telehealth methods. This allows a doctor’s treatments through telehealth to be a major convenience to the patient. Even if you have a deductible or copayment when you physically go to an office, depending on your insurance carrier, you can receive many of the same services remotely with no out-of-pocket expense. This is a major benefit of choosing telehealth.

Why Should I Choose Telehealth?

Perhaps you are trying to isolate yourself due to COVID-19. Perhaps you are trying to avoid busy waiting rooms or close contact with others. Whatever your situation, if you are trying to stay home, telehealth was designed for you.
