Corrective Spinal Traction

Many doctors, physical therapists and chiropractors use spinal traction for reducing pressure on joints and relieving pain. The doctors at Modern Chiropractic Center – mc2 all hold certifications in chiropractic methods that use unique forms of spinal traction that are used to help realign the spine.

When a person has abnormal spine alignment as measured on X-rays, there are ligaments that are holding the spine in that abnormal position. While traditional spinal adjustments can help with motion of the joints and provide short term relief from pain and stiffness, the shortened and tight ligaments will ultimately keep the spine in the same abnormal position. The result is the patient experiences returning pain and stiffness over time.

When the spine is stretched into the correct position, using specific traction methods, it can more easily retain that corrected position. This results in correction of the spine alignment. Because “structure dictates function”, normal function can then, and only then, be achieved.

Returning the spine towards more normal alignment results in less pressure on the joints, and decreased pressure or tension on the spinal nerves and spinal cord. This has been shown in randomized clinical trials to result in improved neurological function of the spinal nerves, spinal cord and even the brain.
